On June 7, 2024, the remote village of Ban Dang in Cao Bo commune, Vi Xuyen district, Ha Giang province warmly welcomed a delegation from the National University of Singapore (NUS). This visit marked the launch of an impactful collaboration between the university and the local community to improve the living conditions and educational opportunities for the area’s underprivileged residents.
The centerpiece of this initiative is the construction of a much-needed bridge crossing a local stream. This vital infrastructure project will significantly enhance connectivity and accessibility for the villagers, facilitating their access to markets, healthcare, and other essential services. Additionally, the program will oversee the establishment of a new school facility, ensuring that children from low-income families in the region can access quality education.

“This is a truly meaningful and humanistic program that will bring great value to the community,” expressed the local leader, Ms. Tuyet, who played a key role in facilitating the partnership between NUS and the Vietnamese village. “We are deeply grateful for the compassion and commitment demonstrated by our friends from the Singaporean university.”
The event was attended by representatives from the local government, the social enterprise YESD, and various community stakeholders. All parties expressed their unwavering support and enthusiasm for the project, which aligns with the broader goal of promoting sustainable livelihoods and uplifting marginalized populations in the remote areas of Ha Giang.
“We are honored to be a part of this collaborative effort to improve the lives of the people in Ban Dang village,” said the NUS delegation. “By leveraging our expertise and resources, we hope to contribute to the well-being and development of this vibrant community.”
As the ceremony concluded, the attendees expressed their sincere gratitude and wished for the continued health, happiness, and prosperity of all involved. This landmark partnership between the Vietnamese village and the Singaporean university serves as a shining example of cross-cultural collaboration in the pursuit of social and economic progress.
